Alexandria MN, Family Photography | Family Farm

I was probably hyperventilating over this session in Alexandria. It was so beautiful. You don’t have to photograph the inside of your home to have an at-home photo session. We explored their family dairy farm, garden and I looked for pretty colors around their yard. You might see the same things every day as ordinary, but they are brand new to me. I love documenting your surroundings in a new light. Things that you see every day as exciting, colorful, beautiful.

This session did take place in Alexandria, even though I live in Fergus Falls I am very excited to drive an hour or two in either direction to come to your family!! <3

Love this session?

Here’s some tips.

Wear complimenting colors. Let’s not get too matchy matchy. Matching white T-shirts and jeans is super 90’s. Instead, compliment colors like mustard and burgundy. Primary colors and rainbows are so fun to play with. Choose all warm Autumn colors, muted or pastel.
Pick one person to wear a pattern like polka dots, stripes or floral. If everyone is in a pattern, your images might turn out visually busy.

Love the glowing sun in this session? Through out the summer this requires later sessions, probably at 6 and 7PM. I know families are on a schedule to stay sane but I have a few tips to make this work.

-Eat dinner one hour earlier.
-Keep treats and drinks available. Ice cream cones, strawberries and watermelon are all adorable to photograph.
-Talk to your kids beforehand. Let them know this is a special night and make it like a family date. Have a picnic outside, a fire or make blanket forts.

You can check out a few more sessions near sunset here and here. Notice the sun’s rays and golden backgrounds. Everyone’s skin glows. There is something magical about this golden hour.

Go with the flow. We will sit down and smile for some pictures but for the most part, I take the kids lead. This may not be the kind of session you are used to. The kids will likely be talking to me, showing me things and running around. Feed them as they get hungry, apply band-aids as needed. This is totally normal. This is how I capture the magic.
